Developed by a multi-disciplinary committee representing the American Thoracic Society, the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine and the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the objective was to evaluate the latest available evidence on mechanical ventilation strategies in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and make recommendations based on this information with the potential to improve outcomes in this patient population.
