Ohio CE Requirements for License Renewal
As a nurse in the state of Ohio, you are required to earn continuing education to renew your active license. All of our CE activities are accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). To assist you in meeting your state’s continuing education requirements, we have added links to related topics. Please ensure that any activity meets the requirements of your state board of nursing.
Renewal Requirements
RN
- Every two years
- 24 hours of continuing education, including 1 hour directly related to the Ohio Nurse Practice Act and the administrative rules of the Ohio Board of Nursing
LPN
- Every two years
- 24 hours of continuing education, including 1 hour directly related to the Ohio Nurse Practice Act and the administrative rules of the Ohio Board of Nursing
Advanced Practice
- Every two years
- 24 hours of continuing education for each APRN license held
- at least 12 of the 24 contact hours must include CE in advanced pharmacology for APRN-CNP, APRN-CNS, or APRN-CNM
- The 24 hours of CE required to renew each APRN license are in addition to the 24 hours of CE required to renew the RN license.
- In addition to the above 24 hours of CE, a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) who was originally issued a certificate of authority on or before December 31, 2000, who is not certified by a national certifying organization approved by the Board, must also obtain 12 hours of CE with content targeted to the CNS’s area of practice.
